Another effort in leveling the fairer sex

18th August Patna: One day seminar held at IIBM premises here in the city on Technical and Vocational Education for Women Empowerment. Students of IIBM, more specifically girls, were informed about the applications of technical and vocational courses.

On the visit of Alka Lamba, vice chairperson of NIPCID (National Institute of Public and Child Development), in Bihar, Dr Zakir Hussain Institute took privilege to invite her in the seminar as a chief speaker. She is also former President of Delhi University and National President of youth Congress (NSUI).

Old Boys association and girl students of IIBM welcomed Alka Lamba by giving her statue of Gol Ghar. “To empower women, education is very essential. Therefore, it is required to develop the technical and vocational courses to empower women” said U.K. Singh, founder and director of Zakir Hussain Institute.

In Bihar, First full time diploma program for computer science and its application exclusively for women were started at Zakir Husssain Institute. “Zakir Hussain Institute has played vital role in educating women of Bihar, thereby we are looking forward to expand its reach to the rural areas as well” said Dr C.V. Nayak.

Alka Lamba started her speech by giving tribute to Dashrat Manjhi who died of cancer on Friday evening. Further on she said “Literacy rate of women in Bihar is pathetic so it is our responsibility to educate rural women of Bihar”. She encouraged students to make a vision like Rajiv Gandhi and Dr. Abul Kalam. While recalling her days of student’s politics she said “When I was elected as President of DU, Bihari students gave me excellent support and therefore I am highly obliged to Biharis and so it is my time to return their favour by giving my service in Bihar”

Lamba founded somewhat contradictory. While she was praising the achievements of Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams, yet at the same time she urged students to stay back in India and to contribute to the development of the country.

Prof Trivedi ended the seminar by saying “Hopefully in the coming 5 years the students of Zakir Hussain will expand the reach of technical and vocational education in rural areas”.
